So I took the plunge and installed my preordered copy of Windows 7 the other night. I was a little impressed with my first attempt at installing because it scanned my computer and told me what software and hardware conflicts I would have and which may be problems. So after updating my virus scan and uninstalling iTunes(which I was a little suspicious about why it would have a conflict with W7) I updated from Vista 64bit to Windows 7 bit. I was surprised that it did take about 2 hours to complete the 'upgrade'.
After the 2 hours, my system booted up successfully to Windows 7 and everything was looking great except guess what, no internet connection. It turns out that Windows 7 installed the wrong network drivers for me. I was not too surprised about this because Windows Update did this to me in the past and has tried to again since I originally fixed it.
The correct drivers were obtained and installed so my connections are good again. Next was the ultimate test, would QW's work. The game started up, everything was looking good, I got into a game with moosea and blue, I disabled moosea's titan with a grenade, she jumped out to have a little duel action with me, I had the initial jump on her, disconnected by Punkbuster.
Apparantly W7 did something to Punkbuster because after manually updating the ET:QW stuff and not working, running a repair on Punkbuster and not working, and then completely uninstalling and then reinstalling it finally worked.
The W7 interface and everything else looks good and generally feels good, but so far I don't know if I'm the exception to the rule or what but it has given me more grief than Vista basically ever did.

Humm it seems that Windows 7 has disabled your reality feature - but I will help you with that later tonight!!! I think that the problem with punk buster is caused when Windows 7 'copies' part of the PB files and it freaks PB out!- thats my very rough understanding of it. ( a less technical version of this is available! ) The people I've spoken to have all said that 7 is easy to use and relatively trouble free after the initial install - but I'm staying with XP for a while yet

Humm it seems that Windows 7 has disabled your reality feature - but I will help you with that later tonight!!! 1. It was warmup so I'm pretty sure normally I would normally just be a Titan smear if I stuck around to harry you after your weapons came back online. 2. If you're anything like me after getting out of a vehicle, I'm normally just a little disoriented. My sense of fairness was null and void to actually have any real duel and started in at you as soon as I saw you exit, hehe, so Punkbuster gave me my just desserts. I haven't had any issues since. QW seems to be completely smooth now.

It sounds like you are running a 64Bit version of windows 7, while most windows are supposedto work with any software isntalled the 64bit version does not support the wide veriety that other operating systems install.
I have windows 7 Ultimate on my computer, I completely formatted my HD at weekend and installed it on both my pc and laptop.
Also if you right click on the programs there is a compatability mode, where you can make a program work as if it is running on that specific operating system.
I have had no problems what so ever with PB and win 7 since weekend, I knwo there is still time but at the moment it has worked a treat, I play other games such as
ET/ET:QW/CRYSIS/RESIDENT EVIL 5 (awesome game btw!)/COD4/L4D/L4D2/TF2/BF2042?
Non of my games crash or have a problem with firewalls or any of the applications that I have installed, I have also installed the latest softwares which include.
Photoshop cs4 master collection/powerdirector Ultra(can think what version it is)
As soon as i got to the desktop I knew I would never go on anyother "previous" O/S again.
Some facts and figure for you.
I have a intel Duel core 2 @ 2.33 3GB ram and a 9800 GT 1GB OC
On Vista I had a performance rating of 5.8 The cpu was being taken right upn to 50-70% most of the time. Vista also needs 900mb of ram to run smoothly before opening any other programs, this was around 35-40% of ram.
My Win 7 install now has a performance rating of 5.8 but my gfx card is alot easier with a rating of 6.7 the Cpu never goes over 50% even with QW running on High. my ram (without runnign anything other than the GUI) takes only 25%.
Bear in mind I run duel monitors, I stress everything out by running web design and design software constantly while have many browsers open on both monitors.
I think the whole depth of windows 7 is great and I think it would take most time to get used to it as it is completely different from others, not so much vista.
