BC2 - punkbuster being the biggest punk of it all

Hi,

since yesterday night I keep getting disconnected by punkbuster init failure... I updated the pb files manually, even reinstalled BC2... doesn't help. Does anyone have ideas?

Hey, i've done the same thing, reinstalled BC2 and PB but not cured the prob, i.ve checked EA web site and they say they are trying to sort out the probs

Yeah petition Splash Damage to put out a new 24 map pack for ET:QW (which I have almost played a full 24 hours worth now), and throw B:BC2 in the trash or make EA provide a full refund for it.

I bought it on last Tuesday and getting kicked by PB would be an improvement on my situation.

I am quite surprised something would come to market with this kind of problems not properly sorted out, I guess "when it's done" is a good philosophy after all.

Otherwise I have no clue what to do but wait, like everyone else. Anyhow who needs Punkbuster when you have Moosea Cheat Buster administering your clan server.

They had the beta out for quite a long time, so you'd expect them to have all these problems solved by now, right? I mean, they can't claim to have created the best online warfare experience if nobody can even access it! Shows what's gone wrong with the gaming world: too many console geeks and not enough die-hard PCers like us.

Okay, at this point I'm assuming I'm the only one who actually enjoys the game. I haven't had many connection problems, I like the style of gameplay it requires, and I think gameplay is wickedly fun.

The lack of referee interface does bother me, but if all of you guys can't connect and are getting pissed then I'm assuming the server will probably be canceled? In that case, I won't need administrative powers anyways.

I am a little upset that all of you (most, at least?) are getting screwed with this. I was really hoping to play some nice maps with you guys. If most of you decide to return the game for a refund I will understand.

I like it a lot, even with the connection to everything problems. it took me more than 1 hour to connect to a game yesterday (EA connection failure, fulll server, EA online down, etc, etc, etc, Ad lib...) but after that it runs fine without any prob.

There is a second way to update PB, if the problems still remains.
Check the Battlefield BC2 blog, a Dev posted the method in details, but I don't know the procedure (something to do with the PkbstrA and B exe files) because the classical way worked for me.
If it doesn't correct anything, we have to wait for a patch...

I remember that I had similar problems with BF2142 at the beginning, and it disapeared quickly, so it's not hopeless (I hope )

i think on reflection i will wait for them to sort this game out. I was so frustrated, New game and all, thing is I like it and just as your getting into it, PB kicks, can't get connection, VP vanishes

So i'll wait. (No refund)

As I posted in the internal ref board for BC2, post in there if you want limited ref powers via web interface. That way you can always kick someone off VP and get a slot on our own server.

Also yesterday X and me were on the server for a bit, and at one point within like 10 mins it was totally crowded, which was pretty cool.

I played a couple of hours, and its ok. Sniping is cool as soon as you figure out where to be, ran out of ammo on several occasions and sure pissed off some guys that never found out where that bullet came from ;D

Its for that reason btw why I do not like kill cams... they give away your position as a sniper.

I think after the initial "why on earth do I miss these unlocks" the game is getting very tactical. Being sniper and being able to call mortar strikes is quite a combination ;D ;D ;D

i'm now, not getting any issue's with the game itself, but PB keeps kicking. I've tried all afternoon, been to Evenbalance.com for support and it say's to save auto update file to your PB folder, which i have done but no cure

Hi,

it looks there is an issue when logging on an empty server: I tryed yesterday on VP when it was empty and I've been kicked each time for the PB ini failure prob (it also happens on other empty servers, so its not only ours).
When logging on a server with people on no problem. One of my friend have the same problem...

Btw, yesterday I only had few problems to log on servers:

- Each time I tryed to log on a server with a low ping, independently of the number of players displayed in the server browser, was unable to connect because the full server message ...

- When I was choosing a server without any ping displayed and free slot, no problem to log and the ping was OK (not good, but it was correctly playable).

Maybe you can try this if you want to play and remain unable to connect on any server.

Hmmm reading your post Zack, maybe we can get a workaround by connecting to VP with 2 or more players at once, or at least shortly one after another?

Yep, we can give it a try, so we can know if it works with that technique.

The more will be the best, so we can hope that minimum 2 of us reach the server almost at the same time.

On my side I'm playing everyday (or trying to ) this week so we can try when you want.

PB, i had been on our server alone for about 20 mins or so this afternoon. only came off because i lost connection, i couldn't get back on straight away but restarted the game and bobs your uncle straight on and played ok.

i have downloaded PB files and updated PB via evenbalance.com
the files are as follows
pbsec.htm and pbsecsv which i manually put into pb/htm folder pbsecsv is for admin and i would surmise that some of the other files that follow are to do with admin

the others are wc002212, la001382, lc002158, ma001382, mc002158, wa001382, wc002158 and wc001724 PB hasen't kick all afternoon until a little while ago and not from our server.

i did however play on other servers with PB off and the only prob i had was connection from time to time. there has been chat about disabling PB on the servers until PB sort the prob out, some are try this now. this doesn't effect your stats

Just in case its oakey1 on the freinds list
