I heard this as kind of the theme song in the movie Gentleman Broncos. It was familiar sounding, although I can't say if I've actually ever heard it before. It was a perfect fit for the movie. In looking to find more about it, I saw some music critic had put it in his top 50 worst rock/pop singles ever because "sci/fi and rock should never mix". I totally disagree with that so here are some more cool sci/fi tunes. Please add more.
I already put a bunch of Rush in another post or I would have added a ton of their stuff here too.

Don't know why this one didn't pop into my head with the first batch.

Well this one isn't so much space rock as futuristic trippy rock.
This is the version from "Electric Ladyland", my personal favorite Hendrix album. If you want more natural version, you can find them all over Youtube.
