Yep, can't go wrong with The Doors. I like basically all of there stuff but have always really like Peace Frog. Can't go wrong with The Who either of course. I can appreciate Gaye and Wonder but haven't really ever gotten into either of them too much. Stevie Wonder is definitely one talented dude though.
I haven't gotten into America too much either but I've liked what I've heard. There's few 'newer' bands that I like much. Few of them seem to be on par with what has already come before.
For example, some sweet, sweet Johnny Cash. Since you seem to like Muppets, a little Johnny in a Muppet surrounding.

Wow the stevie wonder drum solo it's almost unblelievable great !! thx i can't remember me that sesame street had a similar approach as muppet show to receive guest stars.
