Hey guys,
I m thinking of buying myself a new screen. My old one is a 5 year old 19" crt screen which is still cool but well... something bigger would be cooler ;D So how big can you go with the flatscreens, and are the 20,3" or 21" screens REALLY good enough for fps games? I know that Kach's flatscreen sucked so bad he gave it back 2 days later (ok that was 2 years ago, I think). Any suggestions for a special brand or screen?

It depends what you want and how much $$$ are ypu ready to spend. Most screens use TN panels, which are fast but not that good in quality. Then there is AS-IPS panels..expensive but fast and good image quality. Also PVA and MVA are ok. Heres some good readmestuff. French site but what the hell.. ;D www.behardware.com/

Can I get that with two cups of coffey Karma?.. ffs, speak English lol. - I don't know mutch about this, but I'll give you what I know Ofcouse it all depence on HOW mutch you want to spend, and in the hardware busines, which I know you ARE aware of, you get what you pay for, and NOT a penny more. Whats IMPORTENT to look at is the "respont time" normally written like this: "ms" and then a number before "ms", the lower the number is, the better. Mine is (19") "8 ms." which is fast enough for gaming and TV. I think the lowest you can get today is "2ms". So if its "20,3" or 21" " it dosent matter, aslong as it has low "ms". (I think ;D) So not to make it more diffucult then it is buy a: "Monitor with low ms". (in good kvality ofcouse=higher cost) You can even buy a LCD. etc. TV., and use that for a monitor aslong as the respons time is LOW. They normally isent on low cost LCD. TV.'s, thats why you oftent see that the colores can't keep up with the movement, so to speak. You also want one with a: "DVI-D" input, or whats it called, sorry the English.. but one that can use a DVI-D cable. That gives you digital gfx. quality. If you want to go higher then a 19"/21" monitor, the prize rises a lot I think, but the market is ON its way to get some bigger screens out there, I just read that yesterday on some HW. site, so maybe wait 6 mounts - Blue

I have two wide screen monitors and both are decent ones. One is high end and one is lower end. Seems that today any LCD with a low response time will be fine. I have both Dell (30 inch) and samsung (22 inch) and they are both comparable to each other even thou their prices are much different.

Does the 30" LCD really work with games? What s its exact name so I can look it up? The 30 inch is awesome and huge . The only downside is you need a serious rig (sli 8800gtx) to really use it. You can use a lower resolution but the lower you go it tends to get muddy looking. So for your games to look good the native resolution is the only way to really appreciate it. I had to spend 3K+ on my rig to run all my games at it's 2560x1600 resolution. Games like FEAR, Quake 4 and a few others need the 8800gtx sli setup to run max settings here is the link www.dell.com/content/topics/topic.aspx/global/products/monitors/topics/en/monitor_3007wfp?c=us&l=en&s=genHere is a pic of mine again.

do it nite! for a long time i used a crappy 17" crt which i replaced with a 19" TFT 16ms about 2 years ago and i will never go back to crt. No ghosting in games , colour is great, black reproduction is good. TFT is sooooo much sharper and easier on the eyes. Im using a laptop nowadays, and the even that screen is fine for gaming. 2 years later the panels are even better. Eveeryone seems to recommend the dell widescreen tfts, and when i upgrade, it will be the dell 24" 2407WFP or Dell Ultrasharp 2007WFP 20" Widescreen or similar. forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17209584

Here is my current setup with a v7 22" TFT monitor on the left and for the desktop a 19" Dell tft monitor (old 21" CRT just visable to the left for referance of sizes). You can go to a larger resolution setting with a 22" (1680 X 1050) than 19" (1280x1024). but as you can see you dont get much more of a screen when you go for what is marketed as a 22" wide screen. I would go for a 24" like the dell mentioned elsewhere if I was going to upgrade, expensive but a good monitor. The modern TFT screens are great for gaming, older versions with a high response rate were not good with loads of ghosting. Make sure you go for a 5ms Grey to Grey response or better and you will be impressed.

The old 21" is used when I am configuring/fixing other peoples systems I cannot get rid of it, no one wants a 21" CRT nowadays In same room (which is my home/office) I have a 21" dell CRT and a 15" IBM tft, so 5 screens, 2 PC's, 2 Printers, scanner etc. in that room, stays quite warm in the winter. ;D.

Lambert is a BAD Bad person...... With all those electronic in his home/office......
a major contributor to global warming. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D jk
On a more serious note....I am not a big fan for the wide screen, unless u need it to watch movie or working on huge spreadsheets. I have heard many good things about Dell monitors. I have seen a Dell 24" W monitor in action and it actually look pretty good. Just make sure your CPU and graphic card can handle the monitor's native resolution. If you lower you resolution from its native setting, it will look pretty shitty.

the bigger the monitor the bigger the enemy looks. Makes it easier to aim

Well Neo, you ll need to upgrade then to run QW on your screen Lambert, what kind of system do you use to run the 22" widescreen, and what FPS do u get? Btw what do you think: will one 8800GTS 640MB be enough to run a 24" monitor at 1950x1200? I m in doubt about whether to go SLI or just stick with one card, and get a mainboard for just 1 card too.

The system is a AMD64 Athlon x2 3800+ with 2gb DDR 400mhz memory from a company called Goldenelectronics (good price when I bought it, but you can get higher spec machines now for the 800 GBP I paid. It was fitted with a Geforce 7900GT GF card but any recent GF card will run the screen ok. The FPS figures I have never tried as I still cap mine @76 (old RTCW habits dies hard m8) The screen was just over 200 GBP from Novatech, nice screen for ET, no ghosting at all, but I should have held off and got a 24" IMO. The V7 screens are from a company in Germany www.v7-world.com/?lang=de

Talking about bigger Screens, how about this? My newest toy, not a screen no, but a Projector, got it today, and HAD to try it with ET. ofcouse ;D hehe. Not a permenent setup, it goes into the livingroom, but you know, had to play with it a little first on the PC. ;D Don't mind the kvality on the pic., it DOSENT reflect the kvality that I see, its simply just my crappy webcam taking bad pictures.. in fact the kvality is almost better then on my LCD. monitor. I'll try to take some better ones. As you maybe can see, my bed just under the picture, HOW big the picture is/gets. Its placed about 4 m. from the wall. If you are thinking of buying a Projector yourself, I can HIGHLY recomment it, its soooooooooooo cool. Mine is a: "Optoma HD70".

Does this actually work with fast movements when you are in the game? Or do you get ghosting from the projector too? Btw nice map ;D
