Man yesterday I even made a full new install with QW, and had to download the 1.4 patch as well etc etc etc... and guess what it still didn't work  PB continuously fails to install the PnkBstrB.exe properly, and then doesn't recognise it as a service in windows  Punkbuster sucks  |

If you have installed the pb services with pbsvc, you could try uninstalling pb from the control panel/remove programs section.
Then check that the programs (PnkBstrA.exe and PnkBstrB.exe) are really gone from c:\windows\system32.
Reboot. And the install pb again with the pbsvc.
And what antivirus you have? Some may have problems with pb, i think symantec and fsecure are know to cause problems.

I tried all that already, and I have Kaspersky btw. But since I completely shut down antivirus and firewall, they weren't able to cause any problems anyways...

Well then something changed in your system? New program installed, windows updates messed something up?
I have kaspersky too and it has some issues with steam games like HL2 with game overlay. Maybe its kaspersky?
I remember once when some windows xp update messep up some games.

Ok everything works now. Reinstall of WinXP did the trick, because now the PnkBstrB.exe is properly listed in the services too.
