Sound editing program?

Hi guys,

maybe one of you can help me here: I need a sound editing program (preferably freeware) which I can edit soundfiles (music) with, e.g. cut songs into pieces etc, convert KB/s rates etc.
If you are using anything that works well, plz let me know.

Wow... I used to do that a lot, and I had very good programs back then but I can't remember the name of them(cool edit pro and wavelab I think, but I cant be sure).

I use one to make rigntones and other kind of funny mixes, maybe that would help, it's quite complete. Here it is,hope it works for you.

Audacity is open source sound editor, it's supposed to be good for editing, and it's totally free.
