Z-man's monitor is on the fritz and most likely busted for good. He's already having Quake withdrawal. His current problem monitor is a 10+ year old CRT. I'm amazed his eyeballs haven't turned to mush already from staring at that flickery thing. He's talking about tearing the CRT apart and trying to repair it. He needs some encouragement to go out and get a new decent LCD monitor.

Zeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!! You going to have to spend days and days rumaging through that thing............... only to find out that the part you need is more expensive than a new monitor, and is going to take 3 weeks to arrive! Can you seriously live with no QW for that long??? I know QW got you bad - you play more than me!!! Go out and buy yourself a new monitor - Your eyes deserve it!!!

Let's keep it simple: Your CRT has max. 18??? inches... incl. the black border... A new LCD for not too many bucks gives you app. 20 inches with no black borders.... that would give you effectively app. 4 inches more on screen...
(CRT => LCD = app. +2" effectively)
Second: You save a great amount of table space... Usable for food, drinks and other survival article for a long QW night.
These are the reason, why I changed my monitor.

c'mon Z-man, buy a new one. I know there is a global financial crysis, but you can spend one or two bucks for QW. I also thought that it was useless to have a tft before my old & heavy 17''crt dies 3 years ago. I bought 19"tft and it's perfect. Like Fossi says, you will have more place for your beer, enough to spend hours without the need of moving from QW (only for peeing ;D)

I wouldn't advice to repair a monitor(it's like televisions nowdays, it will only get to work for around a few months, and then it'll die again). I have nothing against CRTs, but he definitely wants a new monitor over repairing that one

I m still running my 19" iiyama CRT I bought back in 2001, its great.
Next thing to get would be a 27.5 inch TFT, but well... not sure I really want to invest that money.

Nice one Z! I'm not sure if a 27 inch might be too big though?? A lot of screen to look at
