Sounds weird.
I don't think its your ketboard, that would just be to weird it that could do that.
Have you tryed to re-installe the game? Maybe try that before buying new hardware :-)

I think your upload speed is slow mate! How old is your modem? Do you get lag on other multiplayer games? If your computer is having to wait too long to get a return signal from server it'll make you lag, as your computer is waiting for a response from the server as to what's happening in game! I get about 3.5mb/s dwnld and 1mb/s upload and don't suffer any lag on any multiplayer games

My QW runs slower and lagg'ier the longer time it have been installed, so I always delete the game like every 2'th mounth or something. Just remember to save your "base" and "sdnet" Dir's, then it's easy to get it going again after a clean install. They are here: C:\Documents and Settings\ YOUR_OWN_PC_NAME\Dokumenter\id Software\Enemy Territory - QUAKE Wars But must say that your upload IS slow, and way to slow to run games like QW decent - Upload speed is just as importent, if not more, as download speed when you game. I ALWAYS shut everything down (firewall+anti-vira programs) when I go online on QW, (those programs in processline.. right side, that runs in the background) You gain more RAM availablelity when you do fx. If one of those programs start scanning while you game, its no wounder your game runs slow :-)

He has a bit slow upload speed but should be more than enough for QW and other games. They are not so much about bandwidth but the latency. And upload "speed" doesn't affect you latency really, as the packets the game send are small.

Upload and download speed has nothing at all to do with latency/ping. This is determined by other factors such as how many cable joints there are, or whether you have coax or fibre-optic links to the exchange and distance from the exchange.(Not so important for fibre!) Even though the packets may be small from ETQW, IMO it's not fast enough for smooth gameplay as the 0.37 figure will be an average figure over the test! You should be looking at at least 0.5mb/s for reasonable multiplayer experiences. It doesn't sound like a lot but it's 30% increase on what you've got now! I'm still thinking modem ;D

Okay, just to impress you guys with my math skills. One problem I have is you guys use things like mb that don't mean squat. It's either MB (mega BYTE) or Mb (megaBIT). So anyway, the time it takes for a packet to travel from your comp to the server is the time the signal takes to travel there (latency) + the time the data takes to transmit (this is where the size of the packet and your bandwidth come in to play). After snooping ETQW traffic for a while I got an average packet size of 185 bytes. There seems to be 2-3 small packets (<50 bytes) and then one a bit bigger like 4-600 bytes). So let's say he is playing on some server to which he has a 60ms ping. This is the round-trip time, so the actual time for his signal to reach the server is 30ms. If he has 0.37Mb/s upstream bandwidth it would take 5milliseconds to transmit the average ETQW packet. For my uplink of 10Mb/s it would take 0.2ms to transmit this packet. So Hazik's packet would take 35ms to reach the host, my packet would take only 30ms, making his time 16% slower. When compared with a 0.5Mb/s link, you would only "gain" 1.3ms, which would be 1% faster As to distance to the exchange... shouldn't really affect anything except the maximum bandwidth you can attain, not your ping. Ok I think enough ranting/technobabble. Belfu over and out.

Oh dear Belfu! One byte is actually 8 bits, so a package of 50 megabytes is 400 megabits and 4-600 megabytes is 32-4800 megabits! So Haziks connection speed of 0.37 megabits is 0.04625 megabytes per second. This IMO is why he lags when playing as his upload speed is slow. Distance to the exchange makes a great deal of difference to ping, as does what the cable core is made of.(even fibre optics need a signal boost over long distances!) As for bandwidth once again cable core plays a little part in it, but 95% of it is down to what equipment you connected to in the exchange Sorry Belfu, I'm a broadband engy for BT so do have a little working knowledge

Well, I take it you mean by exchange the place where your ISP has its DSLAM and your signal gets transferred from twistedpair cabling to something more suitable. As the distance is usually <10km you shouldn't have any extra signal boosting equipment in the way. And as electric signals travel close enough to speed of light ... well 10km isn't that big a time... Ofcourse the actual implementation of your connection makes a difference, adsl/cable-tv gives you like 10ms ping to your isp's gateway, my fibre connection gives me 1ms. After that it's all the same. So I would say it's the technology you're using, not the distance to the exchange or the stuff your cable is made of?

Hey Haz,
I do have a recommendation of something that you could look at if you still have problems. It aligns with what Blue was suggesting with reinstalling QW. You may want to try running a registry cleaner.
I was having kind of the opposite problem of you a couple of weeks ago, my keyboard was fine but my mouse kept 'lagging' and sticking. It seemed to happen after running some windows updates. I uninstalled the updates, but it persisted. I ran a check on my registry, and it was a disaster area. I ran a cleanup of it and my mouse issues went away.

Hehe glad your enjoying it Distance is very important for your connection and much like a car runs out of petrol, so your signal will also run out of juice! Check Ohms law for electrical circuits and Beer-Lambert's law for optics Oh and for the watchers DSLAM(Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexer) ;D Oh and forgot to say Hazik, it never rains it only pours

Heh, guess that's why we have people like you To make sure our signal doesn't run out of juice on its way to VP. So what kind of cost does signal amplification/boosting/whatever you call it in this context have in terms of time?
