Just read that the new Modern Warfare doesn't come with a dedicated server. Even Multiplay, our server provider for VP, posts info on that: www.multiplay.co.uk/index.asp?newsid=2659On the german site of the huge pc magazine C't I also read, that the game rage by id software will most likely also not feature any dedicated servers. I have the odd feeling that this indicates a slow ending of good pc gaming and sucky console gaming taking over with listen servers...

I have the hope that it wouldn't be.
If we don't buy games such Modern Warfare 2 with no dedicated server or others, and keep our money for devellopers that respect the Pc Gamers. It will always have people that will devellop for customers with our taste. Don't give your money to someone that try not to please you, someone earn it worth.

I've not bought the game and I'm not too sure what a dedicated server is? I think it means that clans can't rent their own servers to host the game and as such means that only 1 official multi-server will be available to the public Has anyone got any more info on these dedicated servers? I know that a lot of the COD4 people are saying boycott it! As for FPS, well it's getting brown and smelly out there at the moment

If you don't have dedicated servers, server providers can not host servers for you. Dedicated means you can have a server running without any player on it. The alternative is a listen server: you start a server and are the first player on it (with a ping of 0 of course), others can join, but the server runs on your own pc.

So, if thats right then you have many people running their PCs to your PC and they use it as a server? Where's the security in that? Also why aren't the server providers up in arms about this, as it'll hit them hardest! Cheers for straightening that out for us Mc
