At chrismas my sister gave me this new Wallet, with that brand or whatever it is, on it. And now I have seen it on pillows and t-shirts, and Im thinking.. does it mean something, does it repesents something or what is it that mark/brand there are on? I have seen it on some old US (or was it a English one, I dont know) ww2 airplanes, so Im thinking is has something to do with that? But what does it mean, if anything? Do you guys know?

It was also to do with the spitfire in battle of britain. It was a royal air force roundel, to tell who was british planes and who werent etc, etc so it was painted on many aircrafts and still is as far as i know.

That was the area of the plane where gun fire would do the least damage so they were placed there as a distraction to draw enemy fire.
Oh wait, or do I have that mixed up with why Batman has a big shiny bat on his chest, to draw fire to his kevlar protected chest?

And... I don't think you're answer is quite complete. The ensignia on Blue's wallet is 'one' of the RAF roundels. There is story about where they came from. Plus, there are a zillion of those things and they get put all over the place on different flags and with stripes and alone etc..., look en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Air_Force_roundelsen.wikipedia.org/wiki/RafBlue and Haz already basically knew it was a symbol on British aircraft. Hehe. Anyway, why is a French idea used by the British air force on wallets that Blue's sister can buy for him?

Lmao haha I admit, I didn't notice that you did call it a roundel so you got me there, but isn't it much more interesting to know that it was initially used rather than the Union Jack because of the similarity of the Jack and the German Iron Cross? That's much more fun than, yep it marks English planes.

Come on. Thousands of years of recorded human history and it is all boring? You have heard the phrase 'fact is stranger than fiction"? There's some crazy stuff that's gone on in history.

And now it is my time to say something. I knew what it was though I was too late to say so. I knew that, like Crab said, the Union Jack was too like the Iron Cross to use. I know that fighter pilots, even aces, could never possibly hope to only shoot at one particular spot the whole time, and, if they were trained like they were supposed to be, wouldn't be fooled by a silly little English joke of a "fake" target on the least damaging spot of the aircraft . I'm with Crab on the whole history deal. In fact, I'm going to shoot for a history (very broad, I know, but I'll narrow it down later) major when the time comes. No, I'm not basing this decision on this discussion. I have always wanted one .

Just curious what kind of work a history major sets you up for. Politics probably could work off of that or maybe even a lead into law school.
