heeeeey all, HAPPY NEWYEARin holland we have a tradition to jump in the freaking cold sea, on 1 januari at 12.00 hours. what are the traditions in your country??

In Spain the people eat 12 grapes before 12 o' clock to have luck in the new year ;D ;D ;D

Happy New Year to all, and a cool, happy, healthy and successfull 2006!!![/b][/color] Hm i can't remember any customs like that... we usually have quite some fireworks to scare away the bad spirits though (used blackpowder cartridges for my 12gauge Shotgun ;D ;D ;D) but things like swimming, eating grapes... i guess we r boring in that respect

Well, McNite, that is where YOU come from There are various traditions all over Germany, depends on the area you live in. I was born in Cologne, there you have a special pastry, the new years pretzel. In northern Germany and the Isles along the north sea coast they play a special game at new year, named "Bosseln" - you throw the head of a cabbage and do a walk with it. Strange game for strangers Here in switzerland where I live I never noticed anything special, but I'm pretty sure there are some 'rituals' of any kind at other places. In Germany there's a lot of fireworks at midnight, in switzerland there's not. You see only few fireworks. They used all theirs for their national holiday - which is pretty unknown in Germany....
