Surprised to find that we didn't have a BF3 thread. From rockpapershotgun:-Q4 2011 release -Frosbite 2.0 engine, entirely re-written -PC is the lead version -64 players (PC only) -No mod tools at release. Maybe none down the line either. Frosbite 2.0 is complex and mods tools would have to be dumbed-down -One lighting “probe” contains more lighting information than an entire BFBC2 level -Level destruction is going to be “believable” but basically everything is destructible -Character animations powered by ANT, what EA Sports uses -War audio (bullets, tanks, helicopters, etc) captured at different distances to ensure realism -Better audio cues for certain actions, more easily able to listen for threats -Better, more immediate post release content -More unlocks than BFBC2 -4 classes -There will be a kill-cam but it can be turned off -“Fuck” will be used often, so M rated for sure I didn't really get on with BFBC2 but it's great to see a big-budget game leading with the PC platform.

I don't know, the PC version seems a little to 'busy'. Gameplay seems a little more straight forward on console.

I'll give a try to the open beta.
Nice manoeuvre from EA to gain some market share from Valve, you are forced to install and use Origin to download and play the BF3 beta...
Ok I tried 2 hours today. battlelog is not very clear to use the first time. the game ask to DL the last beta drivers for Nvidia card but it is playable with the last WQHL drivers, despite the error message when the game starts. Globaly the feeling is the same than BC2 with some improvements (like sprinting + strafe) but there is still no lean. There is some contextual movements like the SMART of Brink but in a real way as you can imagine in a BF game, more used to have nice movements than a real usefull thing in the game. A lot of common weapons with BC2.
I was a little bit afraid by the computer cfg claimed on the website, but graphics are nice and it run smoothly on my computer (i5 + 4GoDDR3 + GTX460) with the game set on high.
First impressions are good, but there is already problem with some hacks in the beta (message from EA in battlelog is speaking about that).

I have purchased BF3. Installation was a bit of a faff. You launch the EA Origin client (their Steam rival) which sends you to your web browser (with the server list), which needs a plugin installed to communicate with the game.
But it all seems to work well enough and I'm quite enjoying it so far (apart from the awful single player campaign).

If you get time after some more plays Malk, I'd like to hear what you think of it in more detail.

If you get time after some more plays Malk, I'd like to hear what you think of it in more detail. OK, early impressions. The single player is dire. I wasn't expecting anything great, since the BC2 single player wasn't amazing, but it's remarkable how terrible it is. Movement is less clunky. Mantling similar to Mirror's Edge is good. I'm getting snagged on less scenery. Defibrillator hit-zone is extremely generous. I think you can defib. a team-mate's foot to revive them Knife kills have been toned down. This is probably my favourite change. You no longer have to spam the melee button whenever you get within 5ft of an enemy. You can decline revives, similar to Brink and you don't get debited with a death if you do accept. Haven't spent much time in the jets and helicopters (just long enough to crash a few into the ground ) but the vehicles all feel meaty. The jeeps are a lot of fun to bomb around in. Not too many bugs, some of the larger servers are a bit laggy but nothing game-breaking. The graphics and sound are amazing. It's easy to get a bit blase about all the destruction going on, but it is very impressive. Also, runs pretty well (60 fps at 1280x720, medium settings) on my GTS 250. The maps are better than I remember those in BC2 (haven't played it for a while and I didn't bother with the Vietnam stuff). Difficult to say how balanced they'll be once more people learn them. The only obviously poor maps are a couple of the Conquest variants where all 3 flags are along a straight path. Operation Métro is the worst example and it turns the map into one long choke point (was this the choice for the Beta?) Other bad stuff. . . everything else that was poor in BC2.

Well i played the singleplayer... Ilegal torrent file... But the game is awesome... BC2 was nat that good, cause it is a console game... BF3 is more a pc game, so the gamplay is nicer than bf2 and faster movements... I like the game so far!! I`m thinking about it to buy it, but whenn money allows it.. And that will be.... uhm uhm uhm, in about a few years maybe Some expansive years comming up...
