Hey guys I'm thinking about installing Win7. I have XP. now. The copy I got of Win 7 is one I found on a Torrent site - so Im not 100% sure it works. But now Im thinking.. IF it works, but I for some reason don't like it, or there are problems with it, can I then downgrade to my XP. again? I seem to remember I once tryed that and got a windows message that told me I couldent, becouse the OS. that was installed NOW was newer the the one Im was trying to install. ?

I don't think you can go back after upgrading. I have had no issues with Win 7. It has a lot of advantages like handling more RAM and other things I can't think of right now versus XP. It has been very stable for me. I say do it and never look back, hehe.

Hey Blue,
trying to install win 7 on an XP system you may have hardware issue's unless youve checked your hardware is win 7 compatable,
there is another way, multi- boot, so you keep XP but have win 7 on another partition.
all the info is on microsoft knowlodge website
multi-boot should work fine as ive had 95,98, 98se,win2000 pro, winME and XP running on 1 system, shouldnt be to much of a prob.
just a thought ;D could save all the hassle of uninstal and reinstal
i am running win 7-64 have had no probs with this at all apart from some software but that was because i forget to change compatablility from 32 to 64.

I'm currently running Win7 64, working fine and have had no problems (not even with the hardware). It's a bit easier to use than XP in my opinion, but perhaps that's because I'm young and adapt well to change ;D. If you're thinking that it will be "another Vista"..... It isn't . Much much much better.

As Crab says, I don't think you'll be able to downgrade if you install Win7 over your XP installation, but I would have thought it would be better to just format and do a clean install anyway. Hey Blue, trying to install win 7 on an XP system you may have hardware issue's unless youve checked your hardware is win 7 compatable, Are there many problems with hardware compatibility these days? That's a neat trick. I thought that 95, 98, ME all had to be installed on the first primary hard disk partition. If your hard disk has only a single partition then you might need a boot CD to resize it and create a second one for Windows 7 (will the win7 installer offer to do this for you?). I quite like Windows 7 too. I run the 32 bit version because I only have 3GB of RAM.

@ Malkovich, I'm still running XP on my main system which i wanted to change to win 7 but i check with Microsoft and they said check hardware first so Microsoft check while on line and i had issue's with mother board, which can lead to more money but yes your right with recent to new hardware there wouldn't be any probs, my XP sys is a couple of years before win 7 so I've just left it as XP, still good practice to check just incase I think I've just opened a can of worms here win 95, 98, 98se, win ME normally yes you would have to install on primary partition but if i remember correctly i created enough partitions for what i wanted, installed win 2000pro first and created a boot menu and installed the rest as normal. as you know when installing any OS you will get asked what partition you want to install on if you have more than 1 partition. So when you boot the PC up you go straight to a boot menu and choose which OS you want, i would have to check my notes to verify this as it was quite awhile ago when i did this. i only did this on a system with swap out HD so i could repair HD with OS problems that couldn't be sorted still on a system.

Oakey, what were you doing with all of those OS's installed at one time? Hehe, especially that awful ME. It probably was corrupting all the others just being installed, hehe.
