yeah it's something I always want to learn too. But i never programm anything and my knowledge on what's behind a game is very basic.

Don't bother about it, its really very time-consuming. Warbell took about 5 months of work (and I m talking about whole days). Since there is not a single custom QW map final yet, you can take a guess how much more complicated mapping for QW is...

Yep it looks like, I download the QW tool for mapping (can't remember the name ) few month ago, and removed it quickly of my computer, I think it take a lot of time only to understand how it works (and u need to use other software, not only the QW tools), so for mapping... But U can find some links for custom maps on the official forum, there is a special mapping section. Not on release but some of them are in the beta test phase (small maps in general). But you can see the work in progress of some with a lot of screenshots. I think some of them looks interesting

Well the main time does get consumed by actually building the geometry and making it look good, and then getting the looks really good takes a lot of time too. The mapping technique and programs are relatively easy imo. There are lots of tutorials available.
