Wow Abe, a very lovely tank Fish are so relaxing to watch, almost mesmerizing in the way they move! Does the black light stress them out at all, after all I presume they're sleeping then?

It's actually more of a blue light than black light. I don't know exactly what wavelengths it's at but it does create some iridescence in some of the critters. The blue light is there to help simulate dawn and dusk. The lights on the tank are on timers so that the blue light comes on first in the morning for about an hour and stays on one hour longer at night before all lights are out. I have a head lamp with a red light on it that I use to look at the tank in the middle of the night. It's like a different tank with all of the invertebrates that come out at night.

Nice tank X. How big is the guy, 6 inches? I was thinking he had to be bigger than that just based on age and what you're feeding him.
If I ever get a big fresh water tank, that would be a neat fish to have, either a snakehead or an arowana.

From some reports I've seen, they are spreading all across the US already so I probably could just go catch one for myself. Isn't there something about them being somewhat of a lungfish where they can survive out of water for quite awhile. Do you have to keep a sturdy cover on the tank? Probably wouldn't be all that exciting to stumble upon him wiggling across the floor of your place.
Also, I didn't realize 1hlf ft = 1.5 feet. That seems a more reasonable size.

Yea,they have a chamber at the top of there head they use a lung&it is said they can survive out of water for upto 3-4days.As you can see from the pic, there is only two sheets of plastic on top,so yea i could find him on the floor one day ;D

Caught my serpent starfish out exploring a couple of weeks ago. Sorry for any resulting disturbing dreams and/or nightmares. This was about 2 AM. He was really going at it before I got the camera so I missed a couple of really good shots. www.flickr.com/photos/abercrab/4326943418/I have been working on a new 29 gallon refugium that is connected to my main tank. I'll toss up some pics of its inhabitants as I get it going.

Wow that thing is so cooool! It ( he? she? ) doesn't like the light - can you get like a night vision light thing to see them with? If you could I would probably be up all night watching them instead of gaming!!

Well I used to have a pet squirrel, but then some god-damn GI Joe's went on a hunting expedition. Think I'm crazy, eh?!?! There's the proof for you. Got the picture off of one of their dead bodies. Little bastards kill anything that moves.

Had to post up another video of a hitchhiker in my tank that I caught this weekend. I thought I saw this critter before, but it disappeared into the rock so quickly that I wasn't sure. No doubt about it now. It's a sea slug and is probably about 5-10 cm long. I caught it having a snack out in a sandy patch and got it to crawl up the stem of my scraper. www.flickr.com/photos/abercrab/4357307233/
