Well I wouldn't count on this being the future Sure you can do neat things, but the improvement in image quality is neglible at best, and the performance penalty is MASSIVE. Also the research in the area seems quite subdued. Two German universities and Intel. And the German guys work for Intel nowadays so it's only Intel... Even if their coming Larrabee GPU kicks ass in ray tracing it will take time and effort to make the game coders to see the err of their ways (if it's possible).
