wtf whats happend SD ... please give us the alpha-version of brink (the alpha looks much nicer and sounds better as the final (beta) version) take a look on the alpha and some little details kicks my nerves - server-browser --> i never seen before a server-browser like this. (i'm wondering why they make a step backwards , see et/qw) - it doesn't exist any kind of quick voice chat - why why doesn't exist text-history - i need a option to disable the dump auto-lock/aiming to buffering your team-mates or objectives. what a mass, we have a pc and not a gaming-console! i hope so much they will fix it , because the team-game-play is very good.

Yeah, the console feel with a lot of aspects is my biggest gripe. I'm hoping they will evolve/adjust the PC version as time goes on.

Steam is a racket if you ask me. 50e for a download when you can get the same content with packaging and physical media for 27e....

Wanted to download Brink from them last weekend, not even listed thought they be a bit late for UK so i tried today and still not listed. Anyone else have the same prob? Anyhow lost patience with them getting from GAME NOW £27.99 Piss Poor if you ask me Steam There's been a problem with Brink not showing up on Steam in the UK since it launched. It's only £22.50 on amazon at the moment, tho I don't think it's Steam's fault that the new game prices are so high. They're set by the game publishers who are keen not to upset physical retailers by under-cutting them. I never buy anything new on Steam, but I do enjoy their sales with 75% or 90% off

I hit level 20 with my Engineer/ minor Medic character. Been having some pretty fun games. Also, been having an occasional stinky one, when teams are uneven and one side is trapped at their spawn. Some more thoughts on what I like and dislike/hope to see tweaked.
Likes -The buff system - I was initially worried when I heard about there being a buff system, all I could think of was MMORPG buffing. The buffs being permanent until death, everyone getting in on the game (except operatives) the strategy around what buffs to give, to who, how they work with your supply bar, the stacking off effects and command consoles. All very nice.
- The weapons - I haven't even tried the heavy weapons or pistols much for that matter, but I'm amazed at how different all the medium weapons are. It is a lot of fun to try different ones and then to tweak them with all the different attachments there are. I like the combo I have going right now with a decent long range weapon with grenade launcher and then a smg for my backup weapon for close range
- The grenade launcher - so much better than lobbed grenades(which are a dislike)
- The gattling turret - I've only got one game with it in but it is so much better than the lower level turrets so far
- Downed fire - I think that's what it is called. The ability that lets you shoot still when you're incapacitated. I'm guessing people are going to catch on pretty quick to it and make sure they dispatch downed opponents as quickly as possible. I had to have at least 3 kills using it on my first map with it.
- The class system - I've got one character maxed out and I have a pretty good idea on how I'm going to make my second one. There are so many options, and not that it is all that important, I do enjoy customizing their appearance as well. It's a cool little perk to get to see your character in the map cutscenes
-Hacking - the hack box mechanism is pretty fun both when hacking and when trying to defend it
Dislikes -Grenades - I'm guessing they may be better with some of the soldier abilities but I definitely don't have the feel for them down. They seem like a step back from the QW 'nades.
-Communication - I know this one will come, but for a game so focused on team play, it really hurts it to have almost no voip and even in the fire team voip it doesn't show you who's talking.
-Forced interaction with the objectives - There's only one place explosive charges go, there's no/limited choice in where to stand when repairing, etc... again a big diffence from the ET games.
-Jumpiness of the buff system - I would like to have the camera not spin when throwing a buff, I'm pretty sure I could run one way and toss an attachement to someone going the other way without turning all the way around to them.

@ Abe, funny that we have developped our first character in the same way, I also play a full engineer with a few medic part.
It looks that they made compromises due to the console aspects (eg autolock for objectives and dispatch of items , design of menues, crappy server browser, way to create fire team, etc.), but the game is really good, I have no problem going through this issues, even if I hope that some of them will be sorted (I find that it is really annoying that you can't kill a compact group with a centred shot from above, even sometime with a direct hit from GL you don't kill a soldier with a kevlar)

I can understand making it so grenades can't be spammed, but they are awfully weak in general.

I've changed my mind about the grenades. I quite like them now The grenade launcher and the Molotovs are still deadly (or regular grenades with the increased power and increased radius abilities.) But, even without those, you can still do a lot of damage to an opponent if you land a grenade on their face (requires timing or grenade shooting ability.) Fireteam setup is, indeed, a proper mess (and no menu option for VOIP volume ) I think post-match text chat should work if the server is set up correctly. Has anyone seen this? It would be nice to share some "ggs" (or other choice words) after the map finishes. I don't like the forced interaction with objectives (I miss trick plants ). The hacking system is a bit more flexible than ETQW though. The jumpy buff system is pretty annoying. Particularly the command consoles, which seem to override pretty much anything/anyone in the area. I think there's a cvar which sets the radius of interaction (from the player's point of view) for buffs and the SMART system but it's server-side only.

Quick reminder for anyone who bought Brink. Splash Damage have released a DLC pack containing 2 extra maps. The pack is free... but only for 2 weeks (starting yesterday). You have to login to Steam and head to the DLC page store.steampowered.com/app/22364/ to get the content. Once it's associated with your account I believe it is then yours forever. To be honest, you might as well grab it since you probably paid for it in the cover price of the DVD. Also, Brink is free to play during Quakecon (until Sunday I think). I might give it another go over the weekend to see if they've managed to fix it up. I always find it rather unsatisfying after playing QW though.

And then waiting to create account... after 2 hours still nothing... did quit and uninstalled it... (Found some errors in loggs... again and again...) Need to sort out some tech stuff... pfff... frustrating...
